1.Research Kapoor's work in order to discuss the ideas behind 3 quite different works from countries outside New Zealand.
It was really hard to find information on Kapoor's work, but here goes nothing!
Descent Into Lim Kassel, 1992
I'm not too sure what this working is trying to say, but just by looking at it, it reminds me of modern architecture with its square faces and the attitude of 'what you see is what you get'.
The Earth London, 1991
I love the empty space in this installation. It reminds me of the birth of something. I love how the windows allow the light to flow through into the space and reflect off the white walls... just beautiful.
Non Object (Door), Non Object (Pole), Non Object (Vertigo), 2008
This work makes me curious. I feel like wanting to explore the different ways of looking at something through the model. I like the almost hour glass like mirror the most, because of its ability to reflect both the floor and ceiling (< it sounds like it doesn't take much to impress me. lol. T^T)
2.Discuss the large scale site specific work that has been installed on a private site in New Zealand.
Made from steel and fabric, Kapoor's The Farm is a massive outdoor installation. This sculpture is said to be strong enough endure bad weather, but the fanscinating about this piece is that if you looked through one end of each side of the sculpture you would see: Vertical side = the habour, Horizontal side: the vally.
3. Where is the Kapoor's work in New Zealand? What are its form and materials? What are the ideas behind the work?
Kapoor installation is located on a private farm in Kaipara Bay. it kind of looks like a Thankgiving horn
, or maybe that's just me. It's made from ellipse shaped steel rings and fabric is PVC Polyester fabric. This massive installation weights a wooping 50,000kgs! Err... To provoke a reaction? It reminded me, about
4. Comment on which work by Kapoor is your favourite, and why.
Sea Mirror
I just thought it was gorgeous! :D I loved everything about it! It's probably because I have quite a lot of great memories of being at the beach as I child, that I have a strong interest to this piece. I love the colours of the beach, green, yellow, blue, whites and having this HUGE MIRROR reflecting all that... I dunno, it just makes me happy.

Hi , Cory^^
ReplyDeleteWOW. i also like the Sea Mirror . it's so amazing. i like the shape of the mirror . it looks like the funny mirror. if u look at it your body would become fat or weird shape. ^^
HiCORY, the sculpture SEE MIRROR is just an amazing.I love the mirros`s shape, that is creating and the way that so coll.
ReplyDelete.I think that all of his creations are beautiful, from which you could be inspired.
Wow, the sea mirror looks amazing, I didn't see that work when researching Kapoor's sculptures. I'd have to agree on everything you said about the sculpture itself - the beach is an amazing place to be with it's massive vastness - literally as far as your eye can possible see. To take that almost unimaginable size and then reflect it in a mirror... I can only wonder what the feeling of facing that mirror would be like, a horizon of water all around you. Maybe it would be somewhat like being stranded on a tiny island completely surrounded by water.
ReplyDeleteSadly i never found his work 'the sea mirror' while i was researching or i would have probably chosen it too. It really is beautiful and an interesting concept. Kapoor's works are truly inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI must have missed to look at 'the sea mirror'! if I didn't visit to your blog.
ReplyDeleteThat work is really cool! so cool! That is likely to show flowing a waterfall down. I feel very cool and fresh and remembering the memories when I went to Milford sound. it was awesome His ability to make outdoor installations is amazing. Actually looking at the landscape naturally is also gorgeous but, by mirror as kind of stainless things creates more unimaginable views. His work provides various chances to the audience to take some good photos and also enjoy fun.
HI *-* Cory I am again Arkawat.
ReplyDeleteI think his work is interesting and amazing, the idea of fun and viewing from different position. I think his installation work is really
what me to look through his work just more than fun.
I found one work from Anish Kapoor It's [Turning the World Upside Down]. I really like this work because his work reminds me the idea of 'The death of the author'. When I looked at his work it makes me think what if the sky means the ground and the ground means the sky. We had created the symbolic of everything but no one can understand the meaning of such as love, honest, right, wrong, good, bad and etc. What is symbolic such as above exactly mean. We have different point of view and thought. No one can understand each other 100%. I think this work could show us different point of view, if I stand at the front, back, side and from far distance, people in different position will see different point of view. We are always alone in this world, each has different idea.
I think in our life even we have a 100 friends, no one can understand you 100% So i think the work "The sea mirror" and another work that play around with mirror are played around the idea of people thought and different point of views.
